The first thing you need to do when you’re recording or creating a YouTube video is to come up with a compelling topic.
The topic shouldn’t be something that’s already been done. If you’re addressing a topic that’s already been done, make sure that the video is either much better or much more entertaining than any other video out there on that topic.
Each topic should be either educational or entertaining; preferably both. The topic should somehow be related to whatever your website is about. If it’s not, then find some way to tie it back to what your website is about.
To come up with topics for your videos, look at your industry and ask yourself:
Try to come up with videos that you think others would either find funny, be intrigued by, be educated by or even be agitated by. It’s much better to spark a discussion with a controversial video than it is to create a boring video that’s ignored entirely.
In our next post, we will discuss your next steps to an effective YouTube video. In the meantime, get out a pencil and paper and come up with a half dozen topic ideas.
