SHHHH! Keep It A Secret

Keep It A SecretSHHHH! Keep it a secret!   Your website is the place to put whatever you want the world to know!  Once it is out there…it is just about impossible to retract it completely.  Someone will have seen it, shared it, told someone else about it, etc.  It is not the place for secrets!

Keep It Private!

Things that are private or that you don’t want others to know about should not be posted on your website.

I highlight this in Tip #29 in my book, 52 Tips To Turn Your Website Into A Sales Machine.

SHHHH! Keep it a secret, will never work on your website!

You should always use caution with sensitive or confidential information.

Who Will Be Looking?

Always keep in mind that your website will be viewed by many different audiences.  Your customers, potential customers, the competition, employees, media and government agencies.

You might be thinking, “So what?”

Think about it from their perspective:

Customers – You want them to be happy they did business with you.  Never post anything that would make them second-guess their decision or your integrity.

Your Potential Customers –  Do you want them to know this information before they even connect with you?  How will they ever like, know and trust you?

The Competition – They would love to know your secrets to take advantage of you.  Don’t put anything out there they could use against you.

Your Employees – Is this something that everyone in the office should know?

The Media – Do you want this information on the front page of the business section or on your local news channel?   Anything on the web is like putting it on the front page of any newspaper.

Government Regulatory Agencies – I would bet that OSHA has called on a few companies based on the type of photos they post.

Posting something on your website gives the world a front page view of your business.   Think twice about what you post and how those who view your web page will feel about the information.

SHHHH! Keep it a secret may mean just that.  Keep the secret to yourself and don’t post it!
