They were brave, courageous, and inspiring, and they deserved to be remembered for centuries to come. This national holiday started after the civil war when people wanted to grieve and show gratitude to martyrs for their sacrifice. People would decorate the graves of fallen soldiers, with time especially after world war I, this day turned into memorial day. Americans all over the country started to honor every soldier’s death and not just civil war’s fallen, heroes. Now Memorial day is witnessed all over the country on the last Monday of May with national and local events.
