March is Craft Month

Do you have a hobby?  Do you enjoy some type of craft?   I’m thinking model trains, miniature buildings, cars, scrapbooking, woodworking, glass etching, painting, etc.   Whatever your hobby or craft might be, you could always turn it into a business.

 Craft Month Craft Month

March is craft month and it is a great opportunity for retailers to host in-store events, hold contests, special promotions.

Making things is fun, whatever your age, so why not give something new a try for Craft Month. If you’ve always dreamed of taking up a new hobby, why not use Craft Month as an opportunity to read a book or start a class on your chosen craft.

It is also an excellent time to talk about taking your craft or hobby to the next level.   Showcase your hobby on a web page or create a blog to help others learn about your hobby.   To do this, you need to start with a domain name and get your website started.

Getting Started With Your Website

When you begin your site, you need to think about the future and the results you want to see from your website.

Tip # 1, “Starting With the End in Mind”

In my book, 52 Tips To Turn Your Website Into A Sales Machine, I help you determine the purpose of your website.  Where do you see your business in 6 months, a year, or 5 years?

Whatever goals you come up with, write them on paper.  Knowing your end result helps you reach your goal.

Then ask yourself, who is your ideal customer?

For help with that answer, let’s check out

Tip #4 – Don’t Target Everyone

When designing your website, it’s crucial that you focus on your target market and get specific to that person on your website.

Using the shotgun approach and trying to target everyone will get you nowhere. Define a target market. Everything that you do on your site from page names and photos to content should focus on your target market and their needs.

Where do they eat?  What do they do in their free time?  How do they spend their money?  What kind of car do they drive? These are all questions you might ask yourself about your ideal target market.   Once you have a complete picture of your ideal customer, you can begin to build a relationship with your customer using your web page.

Craft Month was created to promote interest in crafts and inspire people to give things a go. If you’ve been holding back on trying something new or starting your business for fear of failure, there’s never been a better time to just be brave and give it a go!
