Indexed Pages

Before your website can rank well on Google, BING and Yahoo, it must be indexed in the search engines.

Indexed is another way of saying that your website is there to be found by the search engines.

Here is a simple way to tell how many of your pages have been indexed by Google.  Since Google has roughly 64% of the search traffic, for me this is the best indicator.

Steps to determine total number of pages within your domain that are present for Google:

1. Go to Google and type in site:yourdomainname.com  An example would be site:www.upstreammarketing.net

2.  Under the search box will appear the number of indexed page.  This number is the total number of pages indexed for your specific domain name.

3.  Check some of the listings that appear for your different links, some may be broken links, some may be your main landing pages, others may be to online directories, blog posts, etc.

If you want you can do the same search on your competitor’s website and see how you compare.  When you have time you can visit some of your competitor’s links and especially if they are links from online directories that you are currently not listed in, go ahead and set up a listing for your company.  It will take time for the search engines to find these new listings, but sometime down the road these listings will help improve your number of indexed pages.
