ChatGPT Explained by a Human

ChatGPT Explained by a Human (Definitely not Written by AI)

ChatGPT is sweeping the nation and filling headlines in every publication in print and on the web (half of which is written by AI anyway. How Meta). Now that AI-written content is easily accessible to the public, no one can be sure what content is written by robots and which words come straight from the wrinkly brain of a human to the page to your eyes. So, to establish my credibility and assure you, the valued reader, that this article is written by me, a human, I will do something no AI can do. I will present to you a sentence that is sure to be the first utterance of these words in this order on the internet: The seven hundred and thirty-five horses visited the bar for the lecture from the old and dying platypus last week to hear what the bear had to say. There you go, I am definitely human.

This proof helps me transition perfectly into telling you exactly what ChatGPT is, and why originality is not its strong suit…yet.

ChatGpt is an Artificial Intelligence language processing tool that can produce human-like conversation and composition construction. All you need to do is submit a question or prompt to the ChatGPT interface and the AI will return content that fits your prompt or answers your question. While you can just have a conversation with the AI, many people are using the highly advanced tool to complete tasks that would normally require a ton of human effort and time. So far, ChatGPT has been used to write news articles, and academic essays, create apps, write advanced code, build resumes, and even write full-length books. So, you may be asking yourself, “If ChatGPT can do all this, why can’t it generate a completely unique and dumb sentence like the one you put above?”

Well, the short answer is, it probably could, but the way that ChatGPT works is highly reliant on the content that already exists in the world. Generative AI Models, like ChatGPT, learn by gathering unfathomable amounts of information from what is already published on the web. These AI models scan every word on every site and use this information as a basis for seemingly unique responses. ChatGPT analyses language and composition from billions of examples and mimics the rules and content it sees. While this process works incredibly well for fact-based writing or computer coding, it lacks a certain something when it comes to creativity.

ChatGPT is by far the best AI that you can experience first-hand. While it has tons of valuable and helpful applications, many are worried that ChatGPT will start replacing human-written content.

Luckily for me, and all of the massively funny and creative people out there, ChatGPT content is missing the human element. It is easy to identify if a piece is written by AI. It often feels formulaic and predictable. It doesn’t come with the warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you read something genuinely creative written by human hands like The seven hundred and thirty-five horses visited the bar for the lecture from the old and dying platypus last week to hear what the bear had to say.

Still, ChatGPT is an exciting innovation that deserves the interest it has mustered up. There is something exciting about having a full chat with a computer who is trying to be human. AI tools are only going to gain popularity and usefulness in the future. Learning how to use them in conjunction with good ‘ol human creativity might just be the key to consistently producing high-level content with less effort and time. So, while ChatGPT is still limited, it may be a good time to explore the AI landscape and see just how beneficial the genius robot in the computer can be.
