8 Questions to Ask About Your Web Page

8 QuestionsWe are talking about web page updates and refreshing your site so you are prepared to end the year strong with your business.

In our last post, Is Your Website Ready For Business, we discussed beginning with the end in mind. Knowing the purpose of your website and what you want it to do is important.

8 Questions

Today we are going to look at your site and I’m going to give you a few questions to ask yourself to make sure your site is reaching your target market.

  1. Do you know who your target market is?
  2. If I went to your page would I be able to tell who your target market is?
  3. Do you speak your target market’s language on the page?
  4. Does the website focus on your customers?  Does it show how your product or service will make their lives better?
  5. Are you meeting customers’ expectations?
  6. Can customers find where to purchase items easily?
  7. Are the items described appropriately?
  8. Are the items displayed attractively?

As You Review

Your response to the questions will let you know how much work you need to do.

You should be able to describe your target market.  If you can’t tell someone about a person in your market, then you need to start there and write a description. What is that person like, where does he live, what does he do in his free time, how much disposable income does he/she have?

You want your web page to reflect your target market.  If you target teens the page will look very different than one targeting senior citizens.   A “business to business” site will be very different than a solopreneur’s sales page.  A young mother’s site will be different than an empty-nesters.  The pictures should be different and the language different to match your target audience.

As you review your site, it should focus on how you can help your customers.  It should show and describe how their lives will be better with your product or service.  You want to focus on what you can do for them.  They probably are not that interested in your history or your awards.  They want to know how you can make their lives better.

Are you giving your customers what they want?   If you meet their expectations and they can find the information they need easily, they will come back.  If you are selling something can it be found easily?  Be sure to include pictures and an accurate description.
