Your Political Label in Facebook

political-labelLately, it seems like some people are being awfully mean on facebook with those who disagree with their political views. With the political “free for all” going on, sometimes you just want to keep your political opinions to yourself. That is all well and good but did you know that even if you are not posting political items,  Facebook labels you politically?

Facebook Gives You A Political Label

They use items you post, conversations with friends, connections and pages you visit to label you.    Why?   The advertising money involved.  By labeling you it helps advertisers target specific demographic groups.

What is Your Label?

Want to know how Facebook classifies you, follow these steps:

  1. politics_1Go to Http://Facebook.com/ads/preferences.
  2. Select Interests
  3. Click Lifestyle and Culture tab
  4. Look for the box labeled “US Politics.”
  5. If you don’t see it, click the “See more” at the bottom. You may have to click on “See more” several times till you see “US Politics.”
  6. If they have you classified wrong or you just don’t want to be categorized, click on the US Politics Button and at the bottom, you can click on the frown to be removed. (see photo)
  7. politicsJust know, in time Facebook will most likely reclassify you again.
  8. While you are there….you might want to check out how they have targeted other similar ads to you. They profile your religion, hobbies, etc.

While I understand Facebook makes their money through advertising and this funds the massive Facebook program so we can all enjoy the FREE connections, pages, etc.  I don’t necessarily like to be profiled for everything.   I’m glad to know where I can go to review this information.

I found it interesting to see how Facebook is profiling me.  Hope you found this little tidbit of information interesting too!

Check it Out!

So if you haven’t done so already……go and check it out on facebook now!
